Top 10 ways to cash in BIG on your Internet venture

Top 10 ways to cash in BIG on your Internet venture, and some hints what not to do…

A lot of us wouldn’t mind cashing in on a big sweet load of money with our web pages, projects and companies. But not a lot of us do, why is that?

Well are you following these super-secure ways you might be able to change that…

1. The Yahoo! Way - The small and unique startup

Start small, give users a sweet and easy way of getting what they want. Yahoo! was initially just a small list of interesting web links put together by the founders, David Filo and Jerry Yang.

2. The Boo.com way - Yell out your name and get to the capitalists

Grow the hype! Turn on the loudspeakers and let the world know about your wonderful new page/idea/startup! (This worked way better before, when the IT bubble hadn’t collapsed, just look at the old Boo.com – they got loads of cash and burnt their way through approx $120 million dollars, and had no result at all..)

3. The Macromedia way – Make it and they will come

Develop something that is way better than the bigger companies can do, release it on the market, get people to love it and adore it… and sell it! (might be considered a morally bad move by some.. but just look at Macromedia Flash and their merger with the giants at Adobe, or Microsoft and… a lot of smaller companies!)

4. The Google wonder-boy way

Do something that is widely used and recognized, but do it a lot better than anyone else can do! Somewhere, sometime long, long ago there where other search-engines ruling the planet, but then a great comet named Google came along and then it was only one… (oh and by the way, check out nr 10 on this list if you want to do a Google)

5. The Amazon way – Early ways to glory

This might be a bit late, but there’s always room for new stuff – Take stuff that works offline and make it available online! Books can be pretty boring for many people, but when sales need to be boosted, few places can make such an impact as putting your titles online – Amazon started out as a small bookshop and quickly boosted it’s sales by having huge amounts of titles in the inventory.

6. Doing the YouTube – and cashing out!

Be on time! Sniff the air for the new trends that will happen and if you’re lucky you might pick the winner and cash in enormous amounts of greedy cash in ultra fast time! Just look at the “not even 1 year old” YouTube that sold to Google for a mind whopping $1,65 billion… That’s not bad for the first years salary..

7. Match.com - The dating way

Start something social online for all the lonely souls offline. Here we have multiple big companies and projects that have reach the sky in more ways than one. Forums are hard to master and get rich on but places like Gaia Online might not be superrich, but being one of the largest forums in the world sure helps with that monthly rent. You might also consider the dating game, Match.com started 1993 and by 2004 it made Guinness World of Records by having had more than 42 million singles signed up…

8. The Skype way – Free services, the way to go!

Skype cashed in big time when giants Ebay bought them for a couple of nice billions and made founder Niklas Zennström a pretty happy man. Skype started out with giving the phone companies around the world a knock-out when providing free phone calls to any computer in the world for free – then also adding a way to call from your computer to any landline for a much smaller fee than the phone giants would provide. This might be one of the hardest ways to make it to the top, since you will go up against all the bigger ones, but as history now tells us, it may very well be worth it considering the potential cash out!

9. Big Company name way

This one is very important indeed, but for all of us that are not geniuses it’s not that very easy to do.. Be the first of doing something. Here we got numerous stuff and companies like Microsoft, Apple, IBM and a lot others. You get the point though..

10. The ultimate start for success

Always, always start your company from a garage! It might be your mom’s, friends or even your own, but if you really want to cash in BIG, do like the other big boys and make your debut in the garage. (hint: Google, YouTube and a lot of “now-big-companies” all cramped into that small space in the beginning)

Well, now that you know how to make a sure-fire start to your Internet company just remember who to thank for all those helpfull tips ;)
